A Streetcar Named Desire

Written by Tennessee Williams

This adaptation relocates A Streetcar Named Desire to 1950s Taiwan, shaped by the recent end of Japanese rule, migration from China, and growing American influence. After losing her former life in Shanghai, Blanche comes to Taiwan to live with her sister. Through Blanche’s conflicted inner life and obsessive attachment to beauty, the project explores displacement, resistance to change, and the cultural complexity of postwar Taiwan.
